Morning FogAn act or a thing is important to you because you make it important. You are in control of what you make important — no one else. What’s important to you is a choice you make…

And that’s all it is. Like choosing vanilla or chocolate. Do you have a reason for choosing one flavor of ice cream or the other? No, you simply choose. What you make important is just like that. No reason. Just choice.

A choice is an either/or deal, because choice is always a relative thing. Do you want this or that? To go here or there?

You will choose what’s most important to you at the time. To help you make choices that forward your progress, simply ask yourself: which choice serves me best right now?

Then you commit…commit to your success…Now, as soon as you’ve made a commitment, you’ll be tested. You will doubt yourself — and your commitment. Don’ worry. (Be happy.) Just re-commit. And you may (I’m sorry — you will) have to do that again, and again, and again.

8 Things to Remember When Everything Goes Wrong

Marie Curie (1867-1934) said:

The strength, the courage, the faith and hope we need to walk through life and the path we have chosen leave no room for fear…

What if” is always on our minds when trying to understand and explain something we feel don’t go our way…but as a parent, partner and lover the what if doesn’t exist…because we do what it takes to care for our children and the ones we love, we handle the situations as they occur, we don’t try to second guess. We take the necessary steps and act out of love and do everything we can to protect, nurture, develop, support and give them the one and only thing we never should run out of – love. And we tell them “nothing in life is to be feared, only to be understood”…

Why do we then doubt our selves, our path, our way and tell ourselves “what if” when we don’t do that to others…?

It’s been said that in order to feel fulfilled you should focus on one or two small things to accomplish each day. In my coaching I talk about identifying short-and long-term goals, aligned with your interests, attitudes and values – your true purpose and priorities – bringing you – on the road map of life – closer to your final destination.

Life doesn’t have to be something that just “happens” to you. You have more of a say in your future than you might imagine. Of the ones I’ve coached, many, who feel they didn’t  wind up “where they wanted to be” had only the vaguest idea of where that place was. They were somehow without direction but admitted to have no focus to begin with. In other words, they were lost from the very beginning, because they didn’t have the life road map – never drew one, never took the time to write down the short-and long-term goals, their direction.

Lars: five years from now and the journey to get there starts with me finding out a) what’s important to me about success [The Values Staircase, a ThinkLars trademark] and b) how “balanced” is my wheel of life [The Wheel of Life, a Meyer Resource Inc. trademark]. It’s about my values – the guidelines I’ll bring with me on my journey and the fuel I need to succeed. What is it I need to accomplish, to satisfy, and how do I find the most rewarding road on the road map of life? The more balanced my “wheels” are the smoother the ride, the faster I can travel (if I so choose to), or the more I’ll enjoy the ride! There are eight spokes on the wheel that, together, and if balanced, will make the wheel roll with fewer bumps and lessen the risk of “deflation”.

1. Professional, 2. Routine, 3. Love, 4. Family, 5. Personal, 6. Self-Development, 7.Wellness and 8. Social

Let’s start with Professional – this area (“spoke”) relates to what I do for a living: the studies, job, career, projects, level of competence, colleagues, hierarchy, self-accomplishment, and working conditions I experience – and how “satisfied” I am with each one of them.  Routine – this “spoke” concerns time management, money, necessary documents, home management, housework, shopping, cleaning, laundry, etc., and how they are all graded/satisfied/taken care of at the present moment. I think you get the grasp of how the Wheel of Life exercise works. The more balanced the 8 spokes are,  the better prepared you are for the road ahead.

The "Personal Self"

Who am I? What makes me unique? Where am I going in life? Am I comfortable with myself? Solitude is a chance to learn something about yourself. Self-discovery is a process that involves asking and answering the questions above.

Solitude also provides an opportunity for perspective. When you’re caught up in the hassles of day-to-day life, all you can see is what’s directly in front of you – the problem of the moment. If you want to see and appreciate the big picture of what your life’s all about, you have to step back and get a bird’s-eye view – and that’s exactly what solitude allows you to do.

Taking time for yourself is often viewed as selfish and uproductive. Solitude is also uncomortable for many people because they’ve learned to derive their self-esteem from activities initiated by their “other selves” – that is, their efforts to satisfy themselves by satisfying others. But there are important benefits that come from spending time with your “personal self”, that part of you that doesn’t need other people to be happy…:)

I’ve been away for a while…distracted from MY goals, my values compromised and rather than action, inactivity…That’s what happens when you steer away from your goals, your values.

If our values represent our highest priorities, doesn’t it make absolute sense that our goals and dreams are rooted in our values? Yet how often do we pursue things, jobs, careers, relationships, even possessions, and when we achieve what we think we desired, we feel let down, somehow dissatisfied and disappointed?
Our values are our internal blueprint for sucesss. They make us who we are and they are intrinsically linked with our attitudes and selfregard. 22 percent of people who join a gym in January have thrown in the towel after 24 weeks. A further 20 percent will disappear before December. Why? Because we are either doing it for the wrong reason, or we don’t know why we’re doing it.

If your goals don’t reflect your values, it will be hard work to stick to them. So make sure you know you HAVE values (because all of us do) and make sure you know WHAT they are! Then set your goals based on your values and action will follow. You will stay focused and motivated, reaching your goals because you ACT – we always do when your goals are aligned with your values:). Need help identifying your values? So, I’m back after a couple of days off. Not on vacation. Just of track. And off-line.Yes, it happen to all of us. And what happens when you do? You hang on to what’s really important to you. You use your attitude, values and interests to find your way back. To find your way back to the path you’ve decided to walk on. A helping hand is always welcome – someone who is willing to listen, someone who cares, someone who can point out the reasons why you want to walk the path you’ve chosen and not stay off track for any long period of time.
Yes, coaches needs coaches – after all we are human like you (surprise!). Why is caring so important…Why should I care about others…It’s simple – when you care about others it shows that you are able to be. And when you care about being, such as being with other human beings, you show compassion and by showing compassion you are able to love. The simple truth is that you have to love yourself before you can love someone else, that you need to show compassion and care about yourself before caring for others. Take a look at yourself in the mirror. Do you like what you see? Can you honestly say you love, care and feel compassion for the person you see in the mirror. If you do (and you should!) then you have the gift of caring for others as well. Sharing the love, compassion and care that we all need and that we from time to time feel left out of. That’s when a friend, coach, loved one is there to support, and remind you about what made you walk on the path you chosen in the first place, and to reach out that helping hand that cares about your well-being and that cares about you finding your way back on your Roadmap to Success 🙂

I conducted a workshop the other day in Connecticut. The topic was getting to know yourself better and the participants worked on answering the question – “If you could do anything now, with the life you have in front of you, what would it be?” by participating in some fun and eye opening self assessment exercises 🙂

A great evening with 10 enthusiastic women who, for one evening at least, got to focus entirely on themselves and in the process got a glimpse of what a Professional Life Coach can do to help, support, guide and motivate you to reach the goals you set up to achieve!
